The lure of Old Hollywood never goes away, and for MAGNET’s annual holiday party, we’re bringing it back to celebrate the holidays! Imagine the classic 1954 film White Christmas, starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. We’ll have an enchanting evening of hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and networking to celebrate the holiday season. Although our theme this year can be widely interpreted (and we encourage you to do so!), we had a few attire suggestions.
MEN Throughout the film, Crosby and Kaye dress very dapper, donning tuxedos and suits for their various performances. Dress to thrill and wear your nicest suit for the occasion, too. Add on a hat or scarf to reinforce the Vermont ski lodge setting (and the 1950s era) the movie takes place in.
Or if you’d rather go more casual, pull out a pair of dress pants and wear with a sweater and collared shirt. Bonus points if the sweater is holiday-themed or ski-themed to play along with the ski lodge aesthetic.
WOMEN Ah, Old Hollywood glamour. Ladies, live it up and pull out your favorite cocktail dress to celebrate the occasion. Consider a strapless cocktail dress paired with a statement bracelet—a look worn several times throughout the film. If your frock has a touch of retro to the silhouette, all the better. A fitted top and swingy full skirt are the best interpretations of ’50s chic.
Or take a more creative stance on the theme and dress in all white—we imagine newly fallen snow as the inspiration for this look.
If you’re not in a dress mood, pull out a pair of dress pants and pair with a sparkly top and blazer or holiday or ski sweater. The ski chic look can translate well, too!
